First Indian fuel efficiency standards were introduced in 2017 and includes two phases of regulatory compliance. Phase 1 goes into effect April 1, 2018, while Phase 2 is effective beginning April 1, 2021.
Standards initially apply to heavy-duty vehicles of 12 tonnes or more, and now cover diesel vehicles between 3.5 and 12.0 tonnes from 2021 onwards.
