The Public Charge point Regulations 2023 came into force in November 2023, mandating simpler pricing information. From November 2024, these regulations added further requirements, including to achieve an average reliability of 99% across their network of chargeponts of 50 kW and above, offer contactless payment options, and give access to free helplines.
From 2025, the Public Charge Point Regulations will require that chargepoint operators open up their networks to roaming partners, further simplifying the charging experience. The UK Government anticipates that measures will help consumers get free, up-to-date and reliable information at all times, and enable them to access chargepoints through a variety of providers and apps, helping to improve their charging experience as the public charging network grows.
