The Australian government legislated in early 2024 to introduce a vehicle efficiency standard to boost EV uptake.
From 2025, the standard is set to be 141gCO2/km and to be gradually reduced to 58 gCO2/km for light-duty vehicles. Conversely, standards for light commercial vehicles are set to be 210 gCO2/km by 2025 and 110 gCO2/km by 2029.
The standard is expected to come into effect from 1 January 2025.
