This Code of practice sets a standard for leak management, detection, reporting and remediation for petroleum leaks within Queensland.  Under Petroleum and Gas (Safety) Regulation 2018, petroleum operators are required to comply with the code for their facilities.

The Code sets leak inspection frequency for wells, gathering systems, and processing plants every five years.  However, the Code notes that the frequency shall be set following a risk assessment, so more frequent inspection campaigns may be required.

The Code also sets standards for detection methodology, instrument certification, remediation and reporting.
