The object of the act is to consolidate a national reporting framework for the reporting and disemmination of information related to greenhouse gas emissions generally, including greenhouse gas projects, energy consumption and energy production of corporations. This is to underpin the introduction of an emissions trading scheme in the future, inform government policy, meet Australia's international reporting obligations, assist State and Territory program activities and avoid duplication in States and Territories.
