The Green Energy SSDG Scheme for Cooperatives is being implemented by the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives (Cooperatives Division) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities and the Central Electricity Board.

The Green Energy SSDG Scheme for Cooperatives comprises the production of electricity by cooperatives using solar photovoltaic (PV) installation and the provision of a grant for PV installation.

The Scheme aims at offering cooperative societies and cooperative federations the opportunity to produce electricity using solar photovoltaic technology and is in line with the Government’s Long-Term Energy Strategy to increase the share of renewable energy to 35% in the national energy mix by 2025 and maintained at 35% until horizon 2030.

The Central Electricity Board (CEB) has a Small Scale Distributed Generation (SSDG) Net Metering Scheme within which the Cooperative Sector will be integrated. This Scheme is based on the net metering principle which will allow cooperatives to produce electricity solely for their own consumption. A maximum capacity of 100 kilowatt solar PV installations from the Cooperative Sector, will be integrated into the CEB grid. A cooperative society/federation would be entitled for a solar PV installation not exceeding 5 kilowatt peak(kWp ) and a one - off grant of Rs10,000 per kWp PV installed up to a maximum of 5 kWp. All other related costs/expenses for the project will have to be borne by the cooperative society.
