The 2015-2019 Strategic Plan is second step in reaching Turkish national renewable energy target of 30% of the total electricity generated from renewable source by 2030. The 2015-2019 Strategic Plan enhancing aims of 2010-2014 Strategic Plan:

increase Turkish energy security by diversifying its energy supply, make greater use of domestic resources, protect the environment by relying on clean, renewable and low carbon technologies and foster energy market efficiency by fostering private sector's investment and integration. The plan seeks to increase the number of developed renewable energy Licensed Projects, boost the development of the small hydro sector and increase electricity grid connection for wind power plants. The plan also seeks to attract private investments in research and development and in geothermal exploitation for electricity production. The plan will also provide financial support to innovation and technology research in the field of renewable energies. Emphasis on connectivity of discontinuous energy resources of wind and solar energy in gird and monitoring system for keeping track of renewable energy based energy project investments are given in strategic plan. Determination, classification, identification, preservation of renewable energy zone areas for utilization of renewable energy resources located at state and treasury sites is also stated in the plan. Special emphasis and attention is given to increase degree of locally manufactured equipment’s used in renewable energy based generating facilities and %45 usage ratio of locally manufactured equipment’s in renewable energy based generating facilities by the end of 2019 is stated.

The short-term Turkish energy strategy will mainly be met by the development of installed capacities as follows:

wind: 5.600 MW by 2017,

hydroelectric: 25.000 MW by 2015,

geothermal: 360 MW by 2017,

solar: 300 MW,

biomass: 380 MW

The mid-term Turkish energy strategy will mainly be met by the development of installed capacities as follows:

wind: 9.500 MW by 2017,

hydroelectric: 27.700 MW by 2017,

geothermal: 420 MW by 2017,

solar: 1800 MW,

biomass: 540 MW

The long-term Turkish energy strategy will mainly be met by the development of installed capacities as follows:

wind: 10.000 MW by 2019,

hydroelectric: 32.000 MW by 2019,

geothermal: 700 MW by 2019,

solar: 3000 MW,

biomass: 700 MW.

2023 targets determined at 2010-2014 Strategic Plan are still valid and they are the ultimate long term goals.

Also as a long-term target; by the end of 2019 proportion of renewable energy resources for commercial heat generation is targeted as 3%

AI Demand, War, and Climate Pressure Push World Back To Nuclear

Global energy markets are in turmoil as energy crises keep piling up. The energy-hungry AI boom, war in Iran, geopolitical instability, and climate pressures are creating a polycrisis for the global energy sector, and it’s just getting started. To solve multiple overlapping crises, we will need multiple overlapping solutions. An all-of-the-above solution to increasing energy security is therefore gaining favor on a global scale as the precariousness of over-reliance on limited energy supply chains becomes dangerously clear. While fossil fuels…

China's Battery Giant Bets Big on Sodium as Lithium Volatility Persists

The world’s largest battery maker is taking a step back from the eclectic vehicles sector to refocus its efforts on energy storage. China’s Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (better known as CATL) has been building up its energy storage portfolio for years now, but the company’s transition away from EVs and toward energy systems has been supercharged by the artificial intelligence boom. Five years ago, just 2 percent of CATL’S sales came from battery storage. Today, storage accounts for a full quarter of the megacompany’s…
