India and Italy signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in the field of critical minerals. The MoU envisages cooperation to support sustainable and secure exploration, extraction, processing and recycling of critical minerals, with a focus on sustainability and supply chain resilience.
Areas of cooperation set out in the MoU include:
sharing and co-development of technologies for exploration, extraction, processing and recycling;
promotion of advanced technologies, best practices, and capacity building;
support for secure supplies of responsibly produced critical minerals;
investment promotion;
cooperation on offshore mineral exploration and extraction technologies; and
collaboration on the valorisation of abandoned mining sites.
The pathways for cooperation include investment and trade promotion, business-to-business matchmaking, engagement with industry, academia and research institutions, and training and knowledge-sharing activities.
