Costa Rica’s National Decarbonization Plan establishes a long-term roadmap to achieve net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050. The strategy defines ten sectoral transformation areas, including transport, electricity, industry, waste and land use. Key objectives include electrifying transport systems, expanding zero-emission public transport, transforming light-duty vehicle fleets to zero-emission technologies powered by renewable electricity, and strengthening the national electricity system to support the transition. The plan sets milestones such as 30 % zero-emission public transport by 2035 and 85 % by 2050, alongside broader measures to reduce fossil-fuel use across the economy
