The National Energy System Operator (NESO) was established on 1 October 2024 and has taken on responsibilities across electricity, gas and hydrogen, including all the functions of the previous Electricity System Operator (ESO), so it is able to take an enhanced whole system approach to operating and planning the energy sector. NESO is helping plan and deliver the integrated system needed to secure the UK's energy security, net zero and affordability goals. Key publications NESO will produce over the next few years include a Strategic Spatial Energy Plan, Future Energy Pathways report and a Centralized Strategic Network Plan
