Climate change agreements are voluntary agreements made by UK industry to reduce energy use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. In return, operators receive a discount on the Climate Change Levy (CCL), a tax added to electricity and fuel bills. The Environment Agency administers the CCA scheme on behalf of the whole of the UK.
2020 Update : The Climate Change Agreement Scheme has been extended to secure up to £300 million of annual savings for companies. The government will start a consultation process which will allow new energy intensive businesses to sign up and make savings from January 2021. It is estimated the scheme will prevent an estimated 700 000t of CO2 from being emitted each year.
