In 1997, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety published a brochure entitled "My Agenda 21: The Energy-Saving Booklet as your contribution to climate protection", which incorporated a chapter on mobility. The aim of the chapter was to make drivers more aware of fuel-saving driving habits, to encourage them to use public transport and, in general, to foster greater environmental awareness on the part of automobile users. The Climate Protection Programme subsequently launched broadly structured information campaigns on good driving habits, with the participation of the automotive industry and the associations from the automotive and environmental industries.
