The Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) took effect on January 1, 1997, removing tariffs on all industrial goods produced in Canada and Israel, along with a select number of agricultural and fisheries products. The agreement provides for the elimination of tariffs for the following goods, among others:
Primary cells and primary batteries : Manganese dioxide;
Heat pumps;
Electric vehicles (Tariff treatment granted only by Canada);
"Fuel and energy" are classified as neutral elements, for which determination of origin does not need to be ascertained.
