This regulation applies to the promotion of the development of energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly energy products and appliances. It sets rules on product-specific guidance for ecodesign of energy-related products and appliances, as well as on ensuring trade of energy-related products within the EU.

From July 2023 onwards, motors are therefore required to be equivalent of IE4 or above efficiency standards.
