The US Department of Energy (DOE) presented an updated list of critical materials for energy. This complements the list of critical minerals published by the US Geological Survey , as required by the Energy Act of 2020 . The public notice also includes an assessment that forms the basis for the designation of critical materials for energy.

The 2023 DOE Critical Materials List includes the following critical minerals for energy:

Aluminium

Cobalt

Copper

Dysprosium

Electrical steel (grain-oriented electrical steel, non-grain-oriented electrical steel and amorphous steel)

Fluorine

Gallium

Iridium

Lithium

Magnesium

Natural graphite

Neodymium

Nickel

Platinum

Praseodymium

Silicon

Silicon carbide.

Terbium

Items in bold do not appear on the list published by the US Geological Survey.
