The Ministerial Working Group on Cimate and Energy Policy prepared the Minerals Strategy for Finland to anticipate development trends in the minerals sector and make recommendations for related policies.
Finland’s vision under its Mineral Strategy is to become a global leader in the sustainable utilisation of mineral resources and to establish the minerals sector as the key foundation of the economy. To this end, the following strategic objectives are stated: (1) Promoting domestic growth and prosperity; (2) Solutions for global mineral chain challenges; and (3) Mitigating environmental impact. To pursue these objectives, twelve action proposals are established related to four distinct themes: (1) Strengthening minerals policy; (2) Securing the supply of raw materials; (3) Reducing the environmental impact of the minerals sector and increasing its productivity; and (4) Strengthening R&D capabilities and expertise.
