In 2021, exercising the power granted by Decree 10.657 , the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy through the Interministerial Committee for the Analysis of Strategic Minerals Projects [CTAPME] enacted Resolution No 2 to declare certain minerals as in the strategic interest of the country. Particularly, the resolution declares the following minerals as strategic:

i.     Minerals that have a high percentage of imports and which are needed to supply vital sectors of the economy:

Sulfur

Phosphate

Potassium

Molybdenum

ii.    Minerals that are important for their application in high-tech products and processes:

Cobalt

Copper

Tin

Graphite

Platinum group minerals;

Lithium

Niobium

Nickel

Silicon

Thallium

Tantalum

Rare earth minerals;

Titanium

Tungsten

Uranium

Vanadium

iii.     Minerals with comparative advantages and essential for the economy since they generate a surplus in the country's trade balance:

Aluminium

Copper

Iron

Graphite

Gold

Manganese

Niobium

Uranium

The declaration of these minerals as strategic indicates that may be the target of policy actions to encourage licensing and investment in minerals projects under the National Pro- Strategic Minerals Policy articulated under Decree 10.657.
