The Measurement Regulations aims to ensure an accurate measurement and allocation of petroleum related flows. Thus, oil and gas production must be metered according to referenced standards and measuring requirements.

The regulation also outlines operational and maintenance requirements regarding valves, flow meters and other gas process equipment. While not directly aimed at mitigating methane emissions, the obligation to ensure adequate measurement results in more accurate emission figures, enabling both indirect mitigation and greater transparency.
