This notification amends the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Power number S.O. 2528(E) dated 8th August 2017.

It adds the requirement for all brands and types of star labelled air conditioner (multi-stage, unitary and split type) up to a cooling capacity of 10,476 Watt, manufactured, purchased or sold in India, of having the default setting of temperature at 24°C with effect from the 1st of January 2020.

Moreover, it sets the requirements for unitary and split air conditioners from 1st January 2021 to 31st of December 2023.

For Unitary Type Air Conditioners manufactured or sold from 1st January, 2018 to 31st December, 2019 (then postponed to 2020):

1 star - minimum: 2.7 - maximum: 2.89

2 stars - minimum: 2.9 - maximum: 3.09

3 stars - minimum: 3.1 - maximum: 3.29

4 stars - minimum: 3.3 - maximum: 3.49

5 stars - minimum: 3.5

Minimum and maximum are expressed in Indian seasonal energy efficiency ratio (kWh/kWh)

For Unitary Type Air Conditioners manufactured or sold from 1st January, 2018 to 31st December, 2019 (then postponed to 2020):

1 star - minimum: 3.3 - maximum: 3.49

2 stars - minimum: 3.5 - maximum: 3.79

3 stars - minimum: 3.8 - maximum: 4.39

4 stars - minimum: 4.4 - maximum: 4.99

5 stars - minimum: 5.0

Minimum and maximum are expressed in Indian seasonal energy efficiency ratio (kWh/kWh)
