Canada's Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program was launched under the umbrella of the Canada Greener Initiative to help low- to median- income homeowners who are currently heating their homes with oil, transition to eligible heat pump systems. The USD 547 million (CAN 750 million) programme incentivises homeowners to receive upfront funding for the purchase and installation of a new electric heat pump, along with necessary ancillary measures, such as electrical upgrades, safe removal of an oil tank, or the replacement of other oil-dependent systems, like a water heater (where applicable).

Additional funding is available to eligible homeowners in provincial/territorial jurisdictions where the program is co-delivered, enabling low- and medium-income households to receive grants that cover up to 100% of the cost of switching from an oil heating system to a heat pump.
