The Climate Change Response Act establishes a carbon fee system in Taiwan, targeting large emitters including power generation and industrial sectors. The system applies to facilities emitting more than 25,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year and is designed to incentivise emissions reductions through economic signals.
The carbon fee was implemented from 2025, with payments starting in 2026, and an initial rate of approximately NT$300 per tonne of CO₂. Covered entities are required to report emissions and may submit reduction plans to qualify for preferential rates.
