The Law on Environmental Management stipulates that any proposed facility likely to have an impact on the environment must be subject to an environmental impact assessment (Article 15). This assessment must set out measures to eliminate, reduce or offset the harmful consequences of the project on the environment (Article 19).

The Law also stipulates that the government is responsible for developing air quality standards (Article 10). In addition, the Law requires the government to establish an environmental information system comprising a database on various aspects of the environment (Article 15).

This Law also provides for the creation of a National Fund for the Environment and Sustainable Development (Article 11).
