The regulation sets fuel efficiency standards to light-duty vehicles. The notification updates the requirements to apply to all new light-duty vehicles starting in 2021, with intermediate values between 2021-2025 and 2026-2030.

Updated  through Notice No. 2024-5, setting progressively stricter fleet-average targets through 2030. Passenger vehicles must meet targets reaching approximately 70 gCO₂/km or 33.1 km/L by 2030, with annual tightening requirements differentiated by vehicle type and weight class.
