The UK government has committed to introduce a business model to support hydrogen-powered electricity generation, with a market engagement document promised in spring 2025. The Hydrogen to Power Business Model will be based on a dispatchable power agreement-style mechanism to support the deployment of hydrogen-to-power technology. Developing dispatchable hydrogen-powered generation is part of the government’s Clean Power Mission and contributes to the country’s efforts to reach net-zero GHG emissions by 2050. The National Energy System Operator estimates that Great Britain's electricity system could need about 40-45 GW of long-duration flexible capacity by 2030.
