The Fusion Energy Sciences (FES) program aims to advance the understanding of high-temperature plasmas and develop fusion energy, by studying both natural and manufactured plasmas. It increased the budget for their Fusion Energy Sciences programme to USD 790 million in 2024 (30% of which was for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), including for stellarator R&D, and also additionally allocated USD 690 million for laser inertial confinement fusion research.
