In 2020, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), Ministry of Commerce (Mofcom), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the General Administration of Customs (GAC) launched a policy to fully forbid the import of “solid waste” called the Announcement on the Comprehensive Ban on the Import of Solid Waste – Announcement No. 53 of 2020 . This policy was a revision of the L aw of the People’s Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Wastes . This revision included prohibitions to the import of solid waste in any form from outside of the country.
