The Korean Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs announced plans for 100% renewable energy (RE 100) demonstration projects for rural communities. The projects will select four rural communities for solar PV installation and energy efficiency upgrades to demonstrate the feasibility of reducing energy costs and meeting energy demand through renewable energy.
The projects will be conducted over a two-year period. Participating communities will receive an energy diagnostic of their community energy demands; install renewable energy projects in residential, commercial, and community spaces; and carry out building renovation upgrades aimed at increasing energy efficiency. Projects will be selected in May 2024.
The total national government budget dedicated will be KRW 3.67 billion (KRW 918 million for each project), with matching funds dedicated by local and provincial governments.
