Korea's Act on Prevention of Divulgence and Protection of Industrial Technology establishes an approval process for foreign direct investment (FDI) involving the following technologies:
Semi-conductor technologies
Medium to large-size lithium-ion battery manufacturing technologies
Hybrid and electric vehicle manufacturing technologies
Hydrogen vehicle fuel cell technologies
Diesel-engine technologies per Euro 6 and higher regulations
High-quality steel manufacturing technologies
Nuclear generation technologies
Hydrogen fuel cell (for generation) technologies
The Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) is in charge of granting FDI approval, and has authority to restrict the transfer of domestic technologies.
