The Government of Austria has approved its budget for 2023 to relieve the population against soaring energy prices from 2023 to 2026 and included over EUR 5 billion in electricity and energy cost subsidies for households and companies.
The support for companies includes a cap on the price of electricity and compensations for their energy purchases. There are two indicated measures:
Energy Cost Subsidy: The energy cost subsidy is aimed at energy-intensive, commercial, and non-profit companies and entrepreneurial areas of non-profit associations.
Electricity Price Compensation: The electricity price compensation aims to reduce the risk of production relocation by energy-intensive companies - and thus also the relocation of CO2 emissions to countries with more lenient climate protection regulations.
