The Rules establish safety requirements for gas distribution systems and facilities which store natural gas or liquefied petroleum gas (e.g. gas filling stations; gas filling points; gas control points, etc.). The Rules also regulate the frequency of inspections of gas pipelines, the use of special equipment to detect leaks, etc.
Paragraph 83. Gas pipelines in operation must be serviced by periodic bypass, using highly sensitive methane detectors, instrument technical inspection, technical diagnostics, as well as routine and major repairs with the frequency established by the Rules.
Paragraph 84. The bypass of above-ground gas pipelines is carried out by one worker. The frequency of the bypass is determined by gas supply organizations or operating organizations that have a gas service, but must occur at least once every 3 months . Identified malfunctions should be eliminated in a timely manner, damage to gas pipelines (including paintwork) should be restored.
