TAIZ — Saudi-backed Project Masam has destroyed 5,977 items of unexploded ordnance in the Bab Al-Mandab area of Yemen's Taiz governorate as part of ongoing efforts to reduce the threat posed by landmines and other remnants of war.The destroyed ordnance included 142 shells of various types, 2,758 fuzes, 2,998 rounds of ammunition, 14 anti-personnel mines, 36 anti-tank mines, nine hand grenades, six missiles, eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and six warheads, following the completion of technical safety procedures.Adib Rajab, commander of Masam's Special Task Team 2, said the destroyed items had been collected over the past month from different parts of Yemen's western coast.He said the team's demining personnel recovered the unexploded ordnance from villages, farmland and grazing areas, where it posed a direct threat to civilians, particularly children, farmers and shepherds.Rajab said the destruction process was carried out in accordance with approved technical procedures, beginning with the excavation of a deep pit to accommodate the ordnance before arranging the items in successive layers. JEDDAH — The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) on Thursday warned of a heatwave across the Eastern Province, with temperatures expected to reach 49–50°C. RIYADH — More than 300 tons of contaminated food were prevented from entering Saudi Arabia during the second quarter of 2026, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) said. According to the SFDA's Regulatory Enforcement Report, the authority identified 1,960 violating establishments, seized 1,016 products, and conducted 17,096 inspection visits during the second quarter of 2026. The authority said compliance with the SFDA's regulations and bylaws is mandatory, warning that violations are subject to legal procedures and regulatory penalties.
Jazan Border Guard foils attempt to smuggle 68,100 regulated medical tablets
JAZAN — More then 68,000 tablets subject to medical circulation regulations were seized by the Border Guard land patrols in the Al-Daer Sector of the Jazan Region. Jazan’s patrols foiled an attempt to smuggle 68,100 tablets and completed the necessary preliminary legal procedures. The authorities said the seized tablets were handed over to the competent authority.
