In December 2017, the Government of Saskatchewan published a climate change strategy, which identified the oil and gas sector as the largest source of GHG emissions in Saskatchewan. The strategy set a methane reduction target of 40-45% below 2015 levels, while increasing the downstream use of natural gas to discourage venting and flaring from oil production facilities.
