The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has developed a voluntary Star Rating Programme for buildings which is based on the actual performance of a building expressed in kWh/sq. m/year. Currently, labelling is available for 4 categories of buildings (day use office buildings, business process outsourcing buildings, shopping malls and hospitals). The scheme is propagated on a voluntary basis and the label provided under it is applicable for a period of 5 years from the date of issue.
