In early 2018 Kazakhstan issued its first call for interest for the renewable energy power capacity auction. The auction is scheduled to take place on 23 May 2018. The government is seeking to procure around 1 GW of new solar PV and wind power capacity while reducing costs. The auctions will be held using an electronic platform, which will ensure transparency. During the three-hour trading session, participants will be able to offer their electricity tariffs. The most effective projects offering the lowest prices will be selected.
