The objective of the project is to improve operational efficiency in the electricity sector and expand renewable generation, transmission and distribution capacity in order to better serve domestic power demand and to support regional power market integration. The anticipated exported renewable energy to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) when the project comes on-line  is 1,349 GWh per year.

Drug lords in Colombia are making more money from cocaine than the government is making from crude oil sales, a report from a Colombian university has found.
