The central element of the hydropower development strategy in Guyana is the Amaila Falls project, which has been under development for several years, with involvement of private investors, IDB and the World Bank. The government plans to invest USD 80 Million from GRIF in the Amaila Hydropower Project.  In 2013 it passed the Hydro-Electric Power (Amendment) Bill.
