It is planned to follow the pilot scheme with the installation of larger RES systems at other waste facility sites. The installations will be used for education purposes and to demonstrate the benefits of various RES options. Data gathered will assist research in the performance of these technologies in local conditions. Various renewable energy technologies are planned to be demonstrated at a Renewable Energy Centre to be set up at the closed Maghtab landfill, to exhibit and compare the benefits of the different technologies. It is planned to include a photovoltaic system and wind turbine system. Other PV installations are planned at the Qortin landfill and the Sant’ Antnin waste treatment facility. The total planned capacity is of 526kWp of PVs and a 750kW wind turbine.
