The federal government has supported third party financing of CHP projects by granting exemptions from the "eco-tax" for co-generation facilities. In addition, companies providing energy conservation contracting can receive financing from special programmes established by the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the reconstruction bank, and the Deutsche Ausgleichsbank (DtA).
