Hydrogen documented via the biogas register could be used to fulfill the obligation to use renewable energies for heat generation in accordance with the Buildings Energy Act (Gebäudeenergiegesetz). This would also be the case, should the hydrogen be fed into the natural gas grid. In addition there are further benefits for feeding hydrogen into the natural gas grid. Certified green H2 results in the payout of avoided grid costs, amounting to 0.7 €ct/kWh, as well as the use of so-called extended balancing, which provides flexibility of operation thereby potentially improving project economics
