This regulation aims to safeguard an uninterrupted supply of gas throughout the European Union. It notably includes that the competent authority of each member state to ensure enough gas supply equivalent to: - Extreme temperatures during a 7-day peak period occurring with a statistical probability of once in 20 years; - Any period of 30 days of exceptionally high gas demand, occurring with a statistical probability of once in 20 years; - A period of 30 days in the case of disruption of the single largest gas infrastructure under average winter conditions.
This regulation has been amended by Regulation 2022/1032, setting the obligation for Member States storage facilities to filled to at least 90 % of their capacity by 1 November of each year.
