This decree implements Directive 2013/56/EU amending Directive 2006/66/EC of the European Parliament on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators as regards the placing on the market of portable batteries and accumulators containing cadmium intended for use in cordless power tools, and of button cells with low mercury content. The provisions concern the marketing of such products containing hazardous materials, as well as the treatment, recycling and disposal of waste batteries. It includes previously exempted items, portable batteries and accumulators, in the market ban of appliances that contain more than 0.002% cadmium by weight and includes previously exempted button cells in the market ban on appliances containing more than 0.0005% mercury content by weight.
