India's Ministry of Power issued in 2018 the "Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles - Guidelines and Standards" with the objective to enable faster adoption of EVs by ensuring safe, reliable, accessible and affordable charging infrastructure as well as to generate business opportunities for small entrepreneurs, encourage preparedness of electrical distribution systems and promote energy security and decarbonisation efforts.
The guidelines contain regulations for the roll out, operation and use of public EV charging infrastructure.
The ministry revised and amended the guidelines several times, most recently in 2022, to account for technological development.
