In an effort to protect domestic consumers from the rise in international energy prices, the government of Guatemala enacted a temporary subsidy scheme for propane, from December 2021 to February 2022. Support amounted then to GTQ 8 for a 10 pound cylinder, GTQ 16 for 20 pounds, GTQ 20 for 25 pounds and GTQ 28 for 35 pounds.

The scheme was extended and the subsidy increased in March 2022 and October 2022, until the end of November 2022. The most recent subsidy enacted is  GTQ 0.80/pound for 10, 20, 25 y 35 pound cylinders.
