In 2016, the Colombian Vice Minister of Mines enacted Resolution No 40391 to approve the National Mining Policy. This roadmap seeks to implement strategies aiming to develop a more competitive and productive mining industry. The Colombian Government is pursuing fostering an organised, legitimate, inclusive and competitive industry.

The following are the policy’s pillars:

Legal certainty : Have a clear and stable legal framework for the development of the sector.

Competitive conditions : Promote competitive conditions for the mining industry, which guarantee that minerals can be extracted. Receiving revenue from taxes and royalties and creating the employment needed by the country. Allowing the efficient development of the industry.

Legitimate trust : Generate a relationship of mutual trust between the government, industry and mining communities.

Infrastructure : Manage the expansion and modernisation of the existing transportation infrastructure.

Information : Expand knowledge about the Colombian territory from a geological-mining point of view, as well as the mining information systems that support the development of the activity.

Strengthened and efficient mining institutions : Improve the mining authority efficiency levels in aspects such as response times and process agility.

This policy is mandatory for the Colombian Ministry of Mine and Energy and the entities that have agreed to follow it.
