The State Energy Program (SEP) provides grants to states for designing and carrying out programs that benefit renewable energy and energy efficiency through communications and outreach activities, technology deployment, and accessing new partnerships and resources.
Program goals include:
increasing the energy efficiency of the U.S. economy;
reducing energy costs;
improving the reliability of electricity, fuel, and energy services delivery;
developing alternative and renewable energy resources;
promoting economic growth with improved environmental quality; and
reducing reliance on imported oil.
The SEP was established in 1996, consolidating the State Energy Conservation Program and the Institutional Conservation Program established by the 1975 Energy Policy Act.
