The ENERGY STAR® label ensures that new homes meet higher energy efficiency standards, including high levels of insulation,a minimum amount of electrical savings and other features. An ENERGY STAR® qualified home is approximately 20 percent more efficient than a reference house. The ENERGY STAR for New Homes program is funded under the Budget 2017 Energy Efficinecy in Housing, Inductry and Transportation which has been allocated $67.5M in the first four years and $15.9M in ongoing federal funding. The ENERGY STAR for New Homes program was previously funded under the ecoENERGY Efficiency initiative, which has been allocated CAD 195 million in federal funding over five years (fiscal year 2011/2012 to fiscal year 2015/2016).
