This regulation determines that the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources ( IBAMA ), in the process of environmental permitting of activities capable of emitting greenhouse gases, shall evaluate measures put forth by proponents with the objective of mitigating environmental impacts related to these emissions, in compliance with the commitments assumed by Brazil with regard to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Thus, it establishes that environmental impact assessments associated with such undertakings must consider actions to mitigate or compensate for these environmental impacts in line with the National Plan on Climate Change.
