Since 2001, automatic speed surveillance has become increasingly common in Sweden. The automatic speed surveillance has a number of purposes, primarily to lower the speed in order to decrease the number of accidents. Lower average speed also decreases fuel consumption, and the measure can thus create energy savings as well as reduced greenhouse gas emissions from road transport.
