A range of appliances must be registered with SASO and labelled with an energy efficiency rating before sale. This rating will be assigned based on the results of energy performance tests according to national standards. Appliances will be rated on a scale of 1 to 6 starts, with higher stars indicating higher energy efficiency. Specific standards in the Saudi Arabian market include MEPS, auditing, standards, and labelling for the following: non-ducted air conditioners and heat pumps; ducted air conditioners and air-to-air heat pumps; household refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers and freezers; household washing machines.
