In support of UDAY: Aiming to replace 250 million conventional meters with smart meters via bulk procurement Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, wherein EESL will undertake all the capital and operational expenditure with zero upfront investment from states and utilities. EESL receives a nominal Internal Rate of Return that is reflected in a mutually agreed upon, automated payback structure. The smart meters procured by EESL will utilize GPRS technology to allow two-way communication between the DISCOM and consumers.
